Liam,

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife's passing.

I lost my first wife rather suddenly six years ago. Of course, I was inundated with food, cards, and words and gestures of sympathy. I hardly noticed; I was numb.

A few weeks later, after the initial wave of condolences had come and gone and everyone had gone back to their lives (while I had no life to go back to, really), I got a card from an uncle who had lost his wife some years before. His candor caught me a little off guard but it turned out to be the one card I remembered. "The days ahead are dark and the road is not an easy one, but there is still light ahead.”

You never “get over” or “move on” from something like this; that void in your life will always be there from now on. But what can happen, with love, time, and faith, is that you can find a way to build a new life around that empty space. You learn to live with it; it becomes part of you. Then, at some point you will learn to find joy in life again. When that happens, you may find yourself surprised to learn that while your wife me be physically absent, she never truly left you.

God bless you, brother, and good luck with the journey.

Sorry liam, I'm very sad for all this, death and dying suck. Though over 40, I've never suffered such a loss yet. Skuzzlebutt about nailed it - In myinsane mind, all who have died, DO live on, and with self-realization.
nuts perhaps, but I do believe it. You will be with her again, but in another realm, also in dreams.

fare thee well

Very sorry to hear this sad news Liam.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I wish you peace and comfort during this troubling time.

Perhaps Im wrong but it seems to me that a rendition of My Sisters and My Brothers would be an appropriate song choice. Keep the faith / We'll all be together forever and ever when we make it to the promised land.

Finster

My condolences too. You're lucky to have had a beloved wife, even if it didn't last as long here as some.

For a song I like the Not Fade Away from Skull & Roses, where it seemed to be God speaking, and of course back to a human traveler for Goin' Down The Road.
